- Minnesota DNR, Urban and Community Forestry
- Minnesota Shade Tree Advisory Committee (MNSTAC)
The Background
I am an outdoor enthusiast and nature-lover by heart. I know that spending time outdoors can calm a restless soul and provide the kind of grounding a person may need during times of stress. I chose to volunteer with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Division with the Urban and Community Forestry team. During my 11-month stint, I learned a ton about tree care. And in turn, I was able to use my skills to help produce a tree care education piece for the public.
This education piece will be produced as a “door hanger” that will be hung on newly planted trees within public boulevards. It will also be handed out at tree sales events so the new tree owner knows how to care for their new tree.
The Outcome
This project is not yet printed, so I do not know of the outcome as of yet. What I hope is that it helps educate people on how to keep a newly planted tree alive, especially within the first year after planting. I know I’ve learned a lot by taking on this project. And I’m grateful for the Communications Team that worked with me to get this piece finalized for production.
